First Light Community Portal
The idea of opening a Community Portal in one of the many rooms in the building next to the Lighthouse to present positive options for the region, was endorsed by participants.
The Portal would serve locals and tourists alike – showcasing, through displays, pamphlets and websites the great diversity of community activity for a sustainable, resilient and harmonious future
The idea is itself a gesture of sheer poetry. Easily it conjures dramatic imagery, full of poignancy and contrast:
This most Easterly point of Australia
blessed by the grand vision
of daily receiving the First Light
is simultaneously
ever so precariously
perched
upon a protruding edge
of our collective vulnerability…
This swirl of coastline
dramatically arches itself
into the ever-rising sea
of these times
of change
