Four thousand people gathered in Bolivia in November, 2007 for the 2nd Latin American Humanist Forum. A star of the Forum, the President of Bolivia, Evo Morales, declared himself a “humanist at the service of life and humanity”. The Bolivian President exhorts the international community to constitutionally renounce war as a means of conflict resolution between countries. Morales advocates the “deep revolution” - creating a consciousness that values the humanity of all persons, affirming: “We come from a culture of life and dialogue, not from a culture of war and death.” www.tortuga.com/portal/node/2057
Nonviolent Communication (NVC) helps connect us with what is alive in ourselves and in others moment-to-moment, with what we or others could do to make life more wonderful, and with an awareness of what gets in the way of natural giving and receiving. Described as ‘the language of the heart’, Nonviolent Communication awakens empathy and honesty, guiding us to reframe how we express ourselves, how we hear others and resolve conflicts by focusing our consciousness on what we are observing, feeling, needing, and requesting.
Imagine connecting with the human spirit, in each person, in any situation. Imagine interacting with others in a way that allows everyone’s needs to be equally valued. Imagine creating organizations and life-serving systems responsive to our needs and the needs of our environment…
The Center for Nonviolent Communication is a global organization helping people connect compassionately with themselves and one another… www.cnvc.org
The Work of Byron Katie: “The Work is a simple yet powerful process of inquiry that teaches you to identify and question the stressful thoughts that cause all the suffering in the world…” ‘The Work’ involves Four Steps that are fully explained (downloads provided, etc) on Byron Katie’s web site: 1) Judge Your Neighbor - an opportunity to express your negative feelings on paper; 2) The Four Questions - investigating each of your statements; 3) Turn it Around - an opportunity to see what you and the person you’ve judged have in common; 4) Embracing Reality - fully embracing all of mind and life without fear, and being open to reality. …Uncomfortable feelings are merely the reminders that we’ve attached to something that … it’s time to do The Work. www.thework.com
